Chess is one of my top subjects! I am a USCF Class A player, having been playing chess for more than 35 years. I was a youth chess champion in China, professionally trained at the Shanghai Sports Palace. I have more than twenty years experience in teaching, tutoring and coaching. He coaches young students from beginner to advanced level. Some of my students have won state championship, national championship, and/or played in World Youth Chess Championship. As an active tournament player myself, he has won the Gold Section at 2014 NJ Open, and the Reserved Section at Columbus Open.

As a high school student and college graduate, I have lived through the education process and hope to share that experience with students. I hold a Bachelors of Arts in History and a minor in Women`s Studies. I graduated from Wilkes University which was originally formed as a part of Bucknell University. As well as academics, I became heavily involved in campus activities and community service. My teaching style is focused on student achievement. Many parents complain that their child does poorly on tests. This is often a result of inadequate teaching practices which fail to recognize individual learning differences in students. My goal in teaching is to individualize the learning process for each student, so that the student understands and retains knowledge and is able to explain what they learned. This process increases their test scores and confidence. Students often require that educational materials be modified or accommodated to meet their particular needs. More About This Tutor...

Math to me is like a puzzle... if you can imagine the pieces in your mind, fitting them together in practice is so much easier. I am extremely patient and easy going, even in coaching, most kids gravitated to me because I could speak to them on their level. You have to explain it in a way that kids can understand. Positive feedback is very critical to let them know they are going down the right path.
I have lived in South Jersey all of my life. I received my degree in Accounting from Stockton and have spent most of my career in finance working my way up to Controller for several businesses. When I was laid off, I had always wanted to try teaching and I loved it. I love working with kids (I also coach baseball and football), I really get a kick out of passing my knowledge onto them and seeing their face when it sinks in.
