American Sign Language Mentor/Tutor

Have been working in the interpreting field since I graduated with my degree in 2007. I work primarily as a community interpreter as well as post secondary education. I also have had the opportunity to mentor and sight supervise University interns. In 2012 I received my national certificate for interpreting from the Register of Interpreters for the Deaf.
I think it is always important to learn what the client wants from the tutoring experience and go from there. My experience with teaching began in 2004 as a volunteer for William Saroyan Elementary School in Fresno, CA. I went on to graduate from CSUFresno with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology; Science is my passion and I believe our young students are in dire need of mentors who are dedicated to show them the world. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been working with students since I was in Middle School myself. I went to college to become a special education teacher and am currently working as a resource specialist. I work with students who have learning disabilities, are at risk, have emotional disturbances, autism, or just need a helping hand. I have also taught in general education classrooms.
I believe every child is capable of matching and exceeding our highest expectations. Every child learns differently and that is my approach. I don't believe in cookie cutter education. A Little Bit About Me...

My experience in the teaching field has been primarily as a substitute on a daily basis. I have some long-term sub assignments in my resume as well. For the past 7 years I have limited my assignments to "Home/Hospital". I meet 5 hours per week with each student to provide complete instruction in all subject areas for the student(s) unable to be in the regular classroom setting due to illness. It is very much a tutoring situation as 5 hours per week is not nearly enough to provide the detailed instruction available on a daily basis.
It seems to me that everyone can learn, in different ways and at different times. My approach is to have several options of which approach will be successful.
