American Sign Language Mentor/Tutor

I think it is always important to learn what the client wants from the tutoring experience and go from there. For potential interpreters I have developed several linguistic building exercises and other challenging material. For parents of Deaf children I can help lead you to resources as well as language advancements. Deaf culture is a huge part of learning American Sign Language so social events and interaction with Deaf people is something I would include as part of my tutoring. My experience in the teaching field has been primarily as a substitute on a daily basis. I have some long-term sub assignments in my resume as well. For the past 7 years I have limited my assignments to "Home/Hospital". I meet 5 hours per week with each student to provide complete instruction in all subject areas for the student(s) unable to be in the regular classroom setting due to illness. It is very much a tutoring situation as 5 hours per week is not nearly enough to provide the detailed instruction available on a daily basis.
It seems to me that everyone can learn, in different ways and at different times. My approach is to have several options of which approach will be successful.
