Math is one of my top subjects! Math was one of my strongest core subjects in school. I received a 33 in the math portion of the ACT. I have taught math classes several times. I have also mentored struggling math students with great success.

Most of my experience comes from substitute teaching. I have been a certified local substitute teacher since September of 2010. I have taught everything from math and science to physical education and music while working as a local substitute teacher. I was able to provide additional service by mentoring individuals who were struggling with material in lessons and assignments. Other professional experience comes from working as a private voice tutor since May of 2010. I have coached many individuals both young and old through voice lessons to establish a core of healthy vocal routines and technique. Additionally, I gathered experience through directing my local church choir from January-May of 2011. I don't really have a teaching style because I have never been an actual tutor before. But, I love helping people and I always helped my friends with homework, especially in math. I am not the kind of tutor who will just give you the answers, I like to make you think about the problem and come up with your own answer. If the answer is wrong, I will ask you to look again and see where you made mistakes and, if needed, I will point them out for you. I really want to help you learn and grow so, eventually, you won't need a tutor.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I spent a year as a Substitute Teacher in Lincoln, NE. I then took a year and a half break from teaching to recruit for a small college. I went back into teaching as a grade 7-12 mathematics teacher. I was responsible for the 7th grade through pre-calculus courses at Wheatland Public Schools in Madrid Nebraska. This school was then combined into Grant Public Schools. I am also a strong technical trainer in my current role and provide necessary computer and analytical training to all new associates at the current company I work for.
I teach to the student. I find exactly what their strengths are and incorporate it in some way to learn something new. Education is a set of building blocks and can only be as strong as the foundation.

A Little Bit About Me...

Good teaching requires knowing both where a student is currently and where they need to go next. It is important to understand that each student may take a slightly different path in getting from "here" to "there." My goal is to focus on the strengths and find ways to overcome the weaknesses.
After teaching 2 years at a large public High School, I spent 5 years as a Research Chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. This experience gives me a practical understanding of research and science that I could not have achieved had I limited my career to teaching alone. For the past year I have been teaching at the LPS Science Focus Program where I have greatly diversified my experience. While in teachers college I decided to pursue a degree in Biochemistry to strengthen my content knowledge. Having a science degree in addition to a teaching degree is a definite advantage.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varies with skill level. Some children need reinforcement schedules while others just need help puting their foot in the right direction. I let my students know that learning is a team effort, instilling that they are not in this alone and that their success is exciting for myself as well. I believe that this approach helps instill a positive outlook on studying and learning, which will help my students succeed without my help later on in life.
I graduated with a Biopsychology degree or otherwise known as Behavioral Neuroscience. This degree enabled me to study organic and inorganic chemistry, biology (immunology, biochemistry etc.), math (statistics, calculus) and 1 year of physics. After taking one and a half years of guitar training, I believe that I can offer my students with the materials they need to play their favorite songs with the chords and strumming, as well as learning and coming up with new solos based on the theories that I teach them.
I first teach my student what the strings are in standard tuning, letting them know what they're playing on. And then I'll teach them the basic chords. The next step of the teach program is to teach them notes as well as other chords. After they get the chords and the notes progression, I'll teach them the scales and solos.
