In my own experience, the key to learning has been to find a "critical link:" that is, to figure out an angle that makes sense to my brain. It is one thing to be exposed to a subject, and another to understand, remember and easily employ what is learned. Everybody thinks differently, so the key is to discuss and explore the topic with a student until you see that they've experienced that "aha" moment. This is why tutoring is so important, in my opinion. This is the core of the approach I take to tutoring my peers, presenting ideas to professors, and to teaching younger students.

Studying applied physics and mathematics at a liberal arts school not only helped me strengthen my mathematical, problem solving, and analytical skills, but also challenged me in writing and critical thinking.
