Since receiving my bachelor’s degree in 2007, I have been involved in teaching students of all ages and backgrounds. I hold a certificate for teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) and am currently teaching in the Adult Education Program of our local community college. I also have done English tutoring for college students who wish to improve their English skills. I also tutor students in literacy and am working towards completing a certification in phonetic reading instruction. I believe that proficient language knowledge and use is crucial to a person’s career development and every-day communication skills. I kept an excellent record of teaching performance till 2005 when I moved to the States. I have taught mathematics in grades 3 through college. I especially enjoy working with high school students and college algebra and trigonometry students. Since my retirement from college teaching I have been tutoring at Sylvan Learning, teaching some grade school math, algebra, geometry and ACT prep. I especially enjoy working one-on-one with students because I am able to concentrate on his/her weaknesses. I like to use manipulatives and concrete examples whenever possible. After introducing a concept I work out examples with the student, then have him/her work through several examples while I watch and, finally, have the student work independently on a set of problems. If there are still errors I try to approach the concept from a different perspective and then repeat the process.
