I have had 2 classes of guitar from FSU and I am a music therapist. I know the basic open chords and barre chords. No classical guitar experience. I have played flute for 13 years and have played in many different settings including: Concert, jazz, solo, choir, etc. I studied under Dr. Shelley Binder for 4 years at the University of Tennessee, specifically working under the French school for flute. I worked with Rusty Holloway for 2 years learning the basics of Jazz and have performed in several small jazz groups. I also play guitar on a regular basis; I know the basic open chords and barre chords. I know how to teach the basics of guitar using the student's preferred music.

I like to establish a solid foundation in sight reading, music theory, and ear training and understand that patience, persistence, and hard work are the key ingredients to learning and instructing properly. I have studied guitar for nearly eleven years and have had formal training in Classical Guitar for the past three years. My experience in instructing formally is limited however I understand the importance of music theory, technique, and proper development of muscles as well as ear training. I have performed at the Florida State Music Symposium at FAU in January of 2012 as well as for grand openings, parties, and weddings.

The thing I love most about teaching is opening up someones eyes to something new and seeing the "wow" look on their faces. Sometimes certain subject matter is not always easy for a person to learn. I've always appreciated the teacher that went out of their way with a great amount of patience to make sure I understood. I take a lot from the amazing teachers I've had and would hope to be able to pass that on. I began my higher education at Tallahassee Community College in 1997. After receiving my AA Degree I transferred to F.S.U where I majored in Criminology with a minor in Spanish and graduated in 2003. Since that time, I've worked as a legal assistant/paralegal with different law firms in town. Recently, I decided to return to school and received my certificate in Massage Therapy.

I have always found myself adept at teaching. I have a great deal of patience and a genuine fondness for instruction. As a journalism major from UF, I gained extensive writing, research and grammatical skills. I am a proficient typist and have an intimate knowledge of computers and various programs. I am grounded in functional math: an essential skill in reporting on the economy and science. I went up to pre-calculus in high school and took both Algebra and Logic in college. Current events and history were both fundamental in my schooling. Throughout my existence I have found myself in the role of teacher. Whether it be academic or physical, I have been blessed with keen abilities, as well as an ease in communicating ideas. This, I believe, stems from a need to comprehend not just the action of something, but the reason for that action as well. I have been working with youth for over ten years. As a private music instructor and substitute teacher I have had the opportunity to work with students K-12 with a wide array of abilities. During the school year of 2009-2010 I was a para-professional in a Kindergarten PDD class (pervasive development disorder/autism) where I helped administer IEP directed lessons for 8 children on the spectrum. I have taught K-Post Secondary through out my teaching career. I have done a great deal of graphic design work with military contractors. However I am most happy teaching.
