The key to breaking down non-fiction, reading-to-learn material is making good use of chapter titles, paragraph headings, bold words, etc. - the structure of the reading material. That structure helps students to break down the material into understandable chunks. Also, like all of education, connecting the material to real life makes the information relevant to a child. I treat children with the same respect and dignity that I treat adults, regardless of their age. I don't use "baby voices," as my goal is to elevate them to their highest academic levels. I enjoy teaching when there is a bit of a challenge getting the student to understand the concept. As I have mentioned, I can use different styles to help the student get the concept. Since my graduation from Southeaster Oklahoma State University I substituted on all grade levels from pre-k to 12th grade for 2 years.
