My comments on tutoring Journalism : I worked as a lead news reporter for The Volunteer Times for a year, but have no formal collegiate Journalism training.

I have been tutoring both peers and high school students during my stay at Lincoln Memorial University. Students regularly asked me to proofread their papers, and parents frequently contacted me for help with high school students senior research papers. I have made consistent A's in all of my English classes, and I currently hold a Bachelors degree in English.

A Little Bit About Me...

Coming from a family with no prior college education, I made it a point to not only graduate from a four-year university but to work as hard as I could to be the best at what I do. I accomplished what I have set out to do by graduating with a degree at both institutes I attended with a GPA above 3.0. I have tutored my younger brother for several years in the four major subjects. I also worked in high school as a teaching aid for a 4th grade class at Jefferson Elementary School and actually taught math and science to the class. As part of the Jefferson County High Science Club, I volunteered for different workshops for kids that showed them the wonders of science.

As a 2010 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I was President of our local Kentucky Education Association and Chair of our Student Government Association. Assuming that most students would rather be anywhere than an English class, I listen to their interests of the moment and then relate them to my goals. I explore their previous knowledge and build on that, avoiding either boring them or talking over their heads. I listen, we laugh, and then I reel them in, constantly showing them how my goals are relevant to their ultimate desires. Fast, if not immediate, feedback is essential to keeping students motivated, as is elaborate explanation of why they scored what they score.
