Literature is one of my top subjects! I have a strong passion for literature. I scored in the top 90th percentile on the Kapstone senior exit exam for Literature. I am proficient in areas from Chaucer and the middle ages, to Shakespeare, early to contemporary British Literature. My area of special interest is American Literature. I am extremely well read in Southern and Appalachian Literature as well as American Literature from the 1930s.

I have training in the Balanced Literacy program in which the word study, reading objectives, and writers' workshop are combined in a one and a half hour block of student driven, teacher facilitated activities. These are ultimately shared in a whole group and or one on one setting. When tutoring, I do a very brief mini lesson on the objective and we go immediatley into the task at hand with instant feedback and adaptation between the reader or writer and myself as we progress through the lesson. If the student is hung on vowel digraphs, we stop and examine those and do word work with several examples. My next choices for them to read would have more vowel digraphs. If my student is confused about where to put the punctuation in a quotation, we will do several real world scenerios where he will write statements, questions, and exclaimations correcting as we go along. I was determined to be the first to attend and graduate from college out of a big family. I have learned different aspects of Psychology to apply to everyday life.
