I have taught Spanish as well as tutored people in Spanish, music (guitar) and English composition. Also, I have some experience with teaching English as a Second Language. I taught beginning level Spanish to 8-12 graders for one year. I have tutored three different individuals in music (guitar) and love helping people to find out how to be creative in their pursuit of music. My comments on tutoring Testing Skills : I have a philosophy that preparation is the foundation to anything, and that proper preparation will help anyone conquer any exam.

I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.
I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.

As a veteran teacher of thirty years, I have much to offer in the educational setting. I taught language arts in 7th and 8th grade for 21 years and in 2nd and 3rd or 9 years. Through teaching language arts, I have many areas covered to help in tutoring of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and editing papers.

I received my B.A. in English from Appalachian State University where I also received training in education. Afterward, I became an instructor at Richmond Community College, teaching basic reading and math to adults with learning disabilities as well as a course on PC literacy & business training. Since I am an artist, I naturally try to teach in a way that honors intuitive ways of learning. I believe that students can often sense the correct way to do a math or writing problem and should be encouraged to trust their own intelligence. Everyone has his/her own way to get at a particular problem. I think the key to understanding many learning difficulties is respecting the child's own processes.
