My comments on tutoring Testing Skills : Vocabulary and sentence structure are the foundations for ASL. The way in which you apply your skills will represent your skill set.

Start with the basics. Assess what level the student is at and then work that into a more challenging structure to pertain to what the student would like to accomplish.
I have been immersed the field of interpreting since 2008. Having graduated out of Bloomsburg University in 2012, over the last two years I have been professionally interpreting in three states and in various fields. Tutor for Regular Elementary and Special Education

I have recently retired after 30+ years as an elementary special and regular education teacher. For the past 15 years I have also worked as a tutor for the city of White Plains. I have done extensive private tutoring for the past 20 years. For 17 years I worked as an elementary special education classroom teacher at New York Hospital in an out-patient day treatment program. This program involved elementary school age children who displayed severe emotional and academic difficulties and were unable to function in a regular school setting.

Have compiled multiple Power Points over the years which explain concepts in simple terms and which have illustrations of concepts which will not be found in nursing textbooks. My comments on tutoring Testing Skills : I can teach the skills needed to be successful on a test.

The first strategy that I use is building a relationship with the student by getting to know who they are, what there favorite things are, subjects, goals etc... This helps me discover what strategies I can use to help them learn. I also try to discover which learning method works best. Are they visual or auditory learner? Do they learn by having things taught step by step, or do they learn through visual or read aloud examples? I believe that every student has the ability to learn and to succeed; it is about finding the best strategy and providing that extra support.
