Learning Can be Easy and Fun!

I am very patient and I make sure the student thoroughly understands a topic before moving on. I motivate the student to succeed and teach good study skills and test taking skills. Normally, I use the student's textbooks and classroom materials during our lessons. For standardized tests, I use prep books, such as Princeton Review. Students do best when they are encouraged and receive positive feedback. My students are extremely satisfied after our lessons, and I receive wonderful feedback from children and adults I tutor.

Everyone needs a little help here and there.

Hi! I am a certified math teacher with 20 years of experience working with students from elementary school through college. I have a Master's degree in Mathematics and a Master's degree in Education also. I am very comfortable teaching all different age groups and enjoy working with students one-on-one. One-on-one teaching helps me understand their strengths and weaknesses. I try to listen to my students' needs and evaluate that first, and then based on that I provide support, guidance, advice and encouragement to students on issues regarding their progress in education. I am very consistent and patient with my students. Since math is very cumulative, I always like to spend some time to review the prior and old material to fill in the gaps and then teach the new material. Since July 1992, I have enjoyed carrying out my responsibilities as a math educator. I enjoy working with children w ... read more

I think that relating a particular subject to a student is the best way to spark their interest and draw them in as learners. Often students do not learn the significance of what they are learning therefore they disconnect themselves from the material. I want to help students care about their education and teach them that any subject can be your best subject when you give it your all.
I have cultivated strong writing and analytical skills in my college career at UConn. I took a variety of classes that requried me to articulate myself through research papers, poems, lab reports, and speeches. While at UConn I volunteered with a local congregation helping non English speaking individuals learn how to speak conversational English.

Earning a BS in Materials Science and Engineering involves knowledge of math, physics, and chemistry. Grammatical and writing skills have been strengthened over the years by writing for the college newspaper, laboratory reports and an extensive amount of research papers due to interests in public policy. Engineers usually cannot write; I can. I tutored extensively in high school, it was my primary income stream, while college revolved more around study groups where whoever knew the most took the lead. It was a revolving position but I often held it.
I feel that understanding the 'why' leads people to more easily grasp larger concepts and makes mistakes easier to recognize. After that practice is absolutely necessary: repetition IS the mother of learning. For children all this has to be presented in an accessible way. I try to contextualize problems in math and science in order to m ... read more

As a hardworking individual with excellent communication skills, I would like to explore the possibility of putting my talents and experience to help children. Currently I have a successful and satisfying career with Artwell Gallery, a nonprofit community based art gallery. However I am looking forward to embarking on a new career. I hold a BA in Radio, Television, and Film from Rowan University. For three years I worked in a pre-school teaching Art to students aged three to five.
I had once been told by a very seasoned teacher that "If you can not go through the front door find an open window." She opened my eyes to creative, and interesting ways to stimulate young minds. I love helping children learn, and finding their open window. A great teacher can incorporate different styles of teaching to adapt to a child's learning ability.

For the 2008-09 school year I was employed in the Connecticut school system in the special education department. There I developed experience tutoring special education students in grades K-6 and worked closely with a myriad of personalities, both adults and children. Additionally, I spent the previous year leading the art department of an influential promotional products firm. I gained experience in customer service and graphic design, and also invaluable knowledge regarding teamwork and juggling multiple tasks. These various facets of my background have enabled me to work well with both children and adults, in special education or otherwise.
I love working with both children and adults and enjoy both the similarities and differences in teaching style required for each. My previous experiences, both in academic and creative fields, have afforded me a great level of patience a ... read more

I came into education as a career later in life. I have never experienced such a rewarding career. Due to my love for this profession and working with children I have recently starting pursuing my teaching certification. I believe that every child should have the opportunity in school to meet their potential and achieve academic success in schools. Many times this requires assistance outside of the classroom setting. I am patient, easygoing and encouraging to my students. I also feel that every child learns differently so I take an unstructured approach and open approach to learning. My main goal is to make a difference in a child's life and help them to succeed and feel confident in school.
I have been working as a Special Education Teaching Assistant for the past 5 years. A good portion of my job is working one on one with children outside of the classroom. I have experience in a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a college graduate with a degree in Accounting, I worked for IBM for 30 years. However, I was fortunate to obtain jobs that enabled me to effectively develop other skills that I thoroughly enjoyed. Those skills include both writing and teaching. In a systems support role, I designed and wrote informational materials to support newly deployed applications. In another supporting position, I trained over 300 accountants in IBM's operation system as part of their computer rollout. I also provided education of a query tool used to enhance the accountant's ability to analyze financial data more effectively. In both instances, I was unfamiliar with the material to be presented and had to learn the subject matter on my own first.
I loved teaching and found it very rewarding. I have been told that I have the patience of a saint. This may be due, in part, to the fact that I hav ... read more

My career in secondary education began in high school, when I was hired to tutor beginning Spanish students from local middle schools. As an undergraduate at Randolph-Macon College, I continued to tutor as a faculty-appointed employee of the college's Higgins Academic Center. There I coached my fellow students in Spanish, writing, and Art History. After graduation I accepted a position as a Spanish instructor at Trinity Episcopal School, an excellent independent secondary school in Richmond, VA. During my three years at Trinity, I taught Spanish at all levels (from beginning through Advanced Placement) and was mentored by truly inspiring foreign-language teachers. I returned to school to earn a Masters degree in Spanish Literature, and there I served as a Graduate Instructor of Spanish courses from beginning through advanced intermediate.
