Creating Confident Students via Creative Learning

I have assisted students with tutoring for most of my life. My mother has worked as a teacher since I was born. I have a broad spectrum in technical and creative skills when working with students. I worked as the Geology Tutor at UNC Asheville. I have worked as a tutor for K-5 students at Hall Fletcher Elementary School (also in Asheville, NC). I have also volunteered throughout my life, helping and tutoring students of all ages throughout my educational and professional career.
I like to use hands on and/or creative teaching methods when possible. I believe that practice and persistence makes perfect. I would say that my teaching style is "outside of the box". Once I have an understanding of what a student is capable of I like to push them to go past their "comfort zone" in learning. It helps them understand that what may look difficult, may not always be so and that they only way to find out is to learn it. Also, I do not teach study habits. Instead I like to see what a students current habits are and work on expanding those habits so that the child does not get frustrated and overwhelmed. It is easier to learn more from current knowledge than try to teach a whole new way. After all, most students study habits are based on how their teacher has taught them, and I wouldn't go against what the teacher has taught. I was a tutor in high school for many elementary and middle school aged children. I am also experienced with writing papers, so I can help anyone who is writing for a college application or essay.
