Creating Confident Students via Creative Learning

I have assisted students with tutoring for most of my life. My mother has worked as a teacher since I was born. I have a broad spectrum in technical and creative skills when working with students. I worked as the Geology Tutor at UNC Asheville. I have worked as a tutor for K-5 students at Hall Fletcher Elementary School (also in Asheville, NC). My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : My past courses have included Myth and Human Culture, Beauty in Western Culture, Linguistic Anthropology and Literature Based Research. My method of active reading has helped several peers become more efficient in their literature based courses. As for younger students, I have completed courses in child and adolescent psychology as well as human cognitive behaviors. I do not use a cookie cutter approach to teaching reading as science has proven these "systems" ineffective. If you are looking for an individualized approach to reading and to increasing the enjoyment of reading, I may be able to help.

As a returning adult college student, I have both classroom experience and life experience. My academic background in developmental and cognitive psychology as well as linguistics has helped me lead and tutor peers in small group sessions for hard to grasp topics and in pre-exam sessions for consolidation of the semesters material.
