As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. My comments on tutoring Spelling : I have always been a proficient speller. Spelling has always been an interest of mine, and it is easy for me to point out correct and incorrect spelling. I believe this has to do with the amount I have read over the years.

I have experience in all things English. From the time I was in high school, I knew I wanted to focus on this subject in my studies in college. I received a BA in English and am currently earning my Masters in Secondary Education to be an English teacher. My interest in English goes beyond the classroom. I have always been an avid reader and writer, pointing out themes and connecting stories to real life. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is a little bit outside of traditional. I believe in a more hands on approach not just say " Read this and lets see where you are tomorrow." People respond a lot better to this approach as opposed to homework or lessons that make no sense.
I don't have any formal training like college or anything. Every bit of my experience is real world experience from working in the field. I believe that hands on or real world experience is much more efficient compared to book knowledge. A book can only tell you a thing or two that might work. I know what will work.

Spelling is one of my top subjects!

I have worked in Metro Nashville School system as a DIrector of Bordeaux Northwest Family Resource Center where my focus was "Children Will Succeed in School". My focus was securing tutors for students who were not reading on grade level. During this tenure I was successful in assisting more than 150 students successfully meet their goals.
I perfer to work with students one on one. I feel that reading or the lack of the ability to read effects every other subject. It is also important for the student to understand what they are reading (comprehension, rather thatn just calling words. I like to question students about wht subject matter. I also think Phonics have been placed on the back burner, I think phonics are extremely important.
