My teaching style is adaptive. I start with a lesson outline, from there we go based on the students needs. Since 2010 I have been involved with various jobs teaching, interpreting and using American Sign Language. I began an Interpreter Training Program at Nashville State Community College. After the first year of the program, I decided to move to a location where many Deaf people were and immersed myself in the language. I got a job as a job coach specifically working with Deaf and hard of hearing individuals. I also began volunteering as an interpreter at a local church. It is also important for the student to understand what they are reading (comprehension, rather thatn just calling words. I like to question students about wht subject matter. I also think Phonics have been placed on the back burner, I think phonics are extremely important. I have worked in Metro Nashville School system as a DIrector of Bordeaux Northwest Family Resource Center where my focus was "Children Will Succeed in School". My focus was securing tutors for students who were not reading on grade level. During this tenure I was successful in assisting more than 150 students successfully meet their goals.
