My favorite aspect of coaching, teaching, and tutoring is the personal connection I build with my students. As a student, I did not adapt well to traditional educational settings, and so I seek to create a nontraditional environment for my students that involves kinetic, visual, and auditory stimulation. Finding my student's motivation to learn is key to my success as a teacher. I strive to make each learning experience new and meaningful. This particular position interests me because I struggled with math through middle school and understand the frustration it can create for a student. Mathematics is now my strongest subject and I chose the profession of accounting to utilize those strengths. During my time at college, I helped other students with their studies in math and business, specifically statistics and quantitative analysis. Although this teaching experience was with college level students, I have held a summer job working with 8-12 year olds for the past four years. When I finish my Master’s Degree, I may consider teaching at an institution such as CCAC because I enjoy helping others with their education. As a result of my post-high school studies in mathematics and business, I feel I'm suited to tutor people in those subjects. I prefer to work one on one with a single student, I do my very best to make my student feel comfortable and ready to learn. I learn what the student likes; music, sports, movies, I use these things to relate to the student and then i'm able to relate the learning material to the students favorite things which I think helps them to be more receptive. I began tutoring while in high school, as a junior and senior I would spend 2-3 afternoons a week at the Middle School helping the learning support classes write book reports. While in college at Slippery Rock University, I put up flyers around campus and worked as an independent tutor for five dollars an hour aiding my fellow students finish their final papers at the end of each semester. I feel that my degree in Creative Writing aids me greatly in tutoring because my ability to think outside the box and put myself in the writers shoes help

I hold a degree in Political Science, but I concentrated in international relations with a fascination for other cultures and languages. Having lived in both England and France, I have been forced to adapt to new ways of thinking, speaking, writing and eventually teaching, where I was thrown in a classroom of French students for which I became a role model of American culture. It was during this time that I decided to work towards becoming a teacher. Further,I am a university speech champion and have written many essays over the course of my studies. Some of which were presented to tutors at Oxford and critiqued on a weekly basis. Thus, my writing skills were formed during this time.
