A Little Bit About Me...

As part of my education program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, I was required to complete a full, yearlong internship. I interned from August-October in a 2nd grade classroom and from October-May in a 3rd grade classroom, Monday-Friday. I went from "student teacher" to co-teacher and my mentor and I would divide the day equally on who taught what. Also, as a part of my internship, I completed and presented an Action Research project which focused on writing in 3rd grade.
I have a passion for teaching and working with children. I feel that children are like unpainted canvases and teachers have the ability to help them realize the value of education. A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University in history. I currently am enrolled at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to obtain a Masters Degree in Education with a license to teach in the state of Tennessee in the middle grades. I have worked as a nanny during undergraduate for a couple different families. I have also worked through the YMCA as an after school teacher where I helped students K-6 with their homework. After graduating with a BA is History, I have worked as a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher, a Kindergarten Substitute Teacher, and an after school teacher for children 4 years through kindergarten.
I enjoy working with children, however, I don't feel I have one teaching style. I like to be able to adapt to how the children learn the best. My favorite teaching style is hands on activities such as experiments and crafts. I take pride in my creativity.

I seek a student-centered classroom with a balance of authority and trustworthiness in the teacher so that the students respect me while at the same time feeling comfortable to share their ideas freely. I like for students to apply what they learn soon after the lesson. For example, if the subject was math, and we had been doing multiplication by flash cards, I might ask a question about the number of squares on a chess board. The idea is to firmly ground the students with their comfort zone as foundation and build upon their confidence with new ways of applying what they have learned so that they continue thinking outside of the rote lesson.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am very passionate about working and helping students. I have the approach that all students can learn and be strong in any subject, but some students learn differently than others. Some students just need a different approach to certain areas, and more one-on-one help. However, I do believe that the student also has a responsibility to try to better oneself and not depend on someone to give them the answers, but this does not mean that they do not need a little help along the way.
