Improving the lives of children has always been a passion of mine. While my academic background has had a focus, primarily, in the social work realm, my overall philosophy for working with youth emphasizes patience and education. I have sought opportunities working with both young children and adolescents. My interest began when I tutored elementary age children during my high school career. Since then, my experiences range from being a school social worker, to teaching anger management group therapy to adolescents, to encouraging education among the youth in my community. My academic interests lie across all subjects, but I have always had a particular fondness for mathematics. I believe that education is the most efficient way to combat any issue. I help point to the truth, aiding the student in discovery. I try to avoid being overly didactic, and prefer to work by asking questions. The most satisfying thing about teaching is being able to witness and participate in the process of comprehension. As an undergraduate I worked at the mathematics tutor lab in our department. As a PhD student I both taught and assisted in the teaching of mathematics courses at the university level. Also I have experience with privately tutoring elementary, jr. high and high school students.

Most of my career has involved some level of teachng or training. I trained new volunteers during the Peace Corps, I taught rural Tunisian families how to use available resources to improve their lives, training natural education instructors and volunteers at the Wells Reserve, traqining and coordinating volunteers within my roles as Executive Director, completing all course requirements for my Maine Teacher Certification, obtaining Ed. Tech III, Highly Qualified status in Maine, and substitute teaching, and now in my role as Title I, Ed. Tech II at Valley View Community School in Farmington, NH where I work extensively with children with special needs.
