Experience Summary
I have been helping students improve their skills since 1989, and there is nothing that thrills me more than a student's "aha!" moment, when everything they are trying to learn just clicks for them. For the past several years I have taught introductory critical thinking and basic essay-writing; students come to me when they have difficulty finding the words for what is in their heads, and I work with them one-on-one to help them express their analyses. I have assisted many students in writing college acceptance essays, term papers, book reviews, and all other written assignments. I know how to help students establish good work habits and systematize their work for less drama-filled, more successful academic experiences.
Teaching Style
My skills, which I learned in the Education Bachelor's degree program at the University of Connecticut, emphasize the development of critical thinking and clear expression in student work. My experience includes working with struggling students in every area, from Advanced Placement to non-traditional learners, so I incorporate many different methologies to help students succeed. As an expert in research skills myself, I can also provide research guidance to students. But my most consistent skill is my ability to help every student find their voice and access their ideas.
