My style is a learner centered one. I believe in guided learning, where the students make discoveries themselves while at the same time feeling supported and directed. I believe that everyone can learn, and discovering each student's style of learning while promoting confidence is very important to me. I am currently teaching English as a second language to post-secondary international students at California State University Sacramento. My style of tutoring is creative flexibility. I assess the student's learning style and try to adapt to that, using different senses (kinetic, aural, oral) to trigger best responses. However, this is layered over a basic multi-part structure suited to the subject. I also like to set up a schedule of what our hour will be like, with some beginning exercises (usually recall from previous session). The rest of the hour would be structured with student input as much as possible. At the end, I like to introduce some free time to talk about the lesson and about any new ideas. I have a masters degree in Enviornmental Biology and a BA in pre-med sciences. I also have an AA degree in Dietetics. My other hat is a long career in writing, editing, and publishing. I graduated in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University, and taught fourth grade for 3 years. I relocated to accommodate my husbands job.
