A Little Bit About Me...

I was am American History tutor through the Academic Achievement Center at Bridgewater State College for my college career. I have also interned at the middle school level in high school to teach young children the wonders of history. I helped to tutor college students struggle to make the grade at the introductory history level. I have extensive knowledge in american history, specifically the civil war time period, as well as latin american history.
I believe the best aproach to teaching is by finding an area of interest and building off that interest. History can be brought to life through movies, music, literature and other materials to make it come to life.

Making Learning Fun and Easy!

I have a bachelors degree in Economics with a concentration in mathematics. I have been tutoring all of my life. I've tutored children, college students, and adults. I've tutored mathematics, grammar, reading, writing, and the military entrance exam. I tutor all levels of mathematics up through Calculus. I would love to help you learn and understand at your own pace.
My teaching style is to move at the students pace - however slowly or quickly that may be. I don't mind being asked the same questions. In fact, I believe that there is no such thing as a bad question, and that a student should ask a question as many times as s/he feels it is necessary to do so.

I have participated in many study groups where I actively contribute information on the topic of interest; there we help each other and teach each other. Also, I'm the oldest sibling of four, I have had many years of helping out with homework and tutoring in reading, writing and math. My education consisted of diverse studies and I learned a great deal of mathematics and sciences. Also, naturally I use proper grammar and have a good hand for writing. I enjoy teaching any age student, but more than that I get satisfaction when that student attains their goal. I believe in using the Socratic method of teaching and allowing the student to get their own answers rather than just telling them. I seek ... read more

My comments on tutoring Geography : I enjoy helping students understand geography through comparing and contrasting to better understand our place in the world.

My teaching style tends to change based on the student. I do my best to adapt to meet the different learning styles of the student. There is no one way to learn or teach, I do my best to meet the needs of the student.
I have over 15 years experience working in the research and information fields. I have worked as a public librarian helping students with research, works cited, and educating them on educational databases that can assist them with school. I spent 8 years as a media specialist in a lower and middle school. During my time in the school I helped students with research, paper writing, works cited, organizational styles, and even taught a yearly Russian history unit to the 7th grade students.

Learning as an Individual, Believing in Your Value

Have worked with elementary age children and have tutored/mentored in the workplace. With many years of work experience with employees of varying skill levels, I understand what it takes to be a valued contributor and understand that students learn in very different ways. Creating a relationship with information that is meaningful to the student is the best way to help them learn a concept or process. Most learning focuses on information assimilation while I focus on applying the concept or process to a real work situation that has meaning to the student.
Discovery with emphasis on individual learning style - for instance tactical or visual instead of instructional - also have worked with kids who have emotional issues or self image issues that hold them back from learning - interested in working with kids who are in need of a someone who sees them as an individual

Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

Web manager and usability analyst as well as instructor. I have been asked at various jobs to teach training classes to my peers because of my ability to deliver an easy to understand lesson. I've been told I am very good at explaining a topic that someone has no experience with at all. I am on contract with NC States Computer Training Unit.
I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.
