Physics is one of my top subjects! I have an earned B.S. & Ph.D. in Engineering Mathematics from NC State University and Columbia Pacific University respectively. Physics is deeply embedded in engineering and is consistently used throughout applications in this field. This one of my "Top Subjects", as I have been using its contents in my work over a period of half a century.

I have participated in many study groups where I actively contribute information on the topic of interest; there we help each other and teach each other. Also, I'm the oldest sibling of four, I have had many years of helping out with homework and tutoring in reading, writing and math. My education consisted of diverse studies and I learned a great deal of mathematics and sciences. Also, naturally I use proper grammar and have a good hand for writing. I am a very creative person and can come up with unique topics. I'm also very artsy and appreciate a good hands on experiment.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am very hands on teaching style. I make sure I cater to each of my students individually. I offer my students the encouragement and respect they deserve and treat them with kindness. I adjust for visual, hearing, and hands-on learners. I put a lot of pride in my work and I am not satisfied until the student has a firm grip of the subject matter.

Professional Exam Prep and Subject Tutoring

During my time as Head Tutor at UNCA, regardless of department, I tutored over 200 students in mathematics and physics. Of those students, at least 80% saw an increase of at least one letter grade and at least 20% saw an increase by two letter grades. Many students I tutored in one subject came back to be for tutoring in the other. For many of my students I served as an invaluable mentor who guided them from their earliest days as a college freshman to the day the walked across the stage and earned their degree. Over the past five years, I have helped more than 100 students gain admission to their dream colleges and have averaged a score increase of approximately 260 points for the SAT and 6.5 points for the ACT. I have personally played a role in the lives of students who have earned admission into such institutions as Stanford, Duke, UVA, Cal Tech, Georgia Tech, UNC, and UPenn. ... read more

I love teaching and working with people. I believe that there is no set teaching style, due to people's indifferance. I believe that because people learn in differant ways, then a teacher/tutor should approach students in many angles.
I believe with my background I should be a good candidate for the tutoring position. I have a B.S. Chemistry from Elizabeth City State University, where I did R&D work with Atrazine. Atrazine is a pesticide that was tested qualitatively and quantitatively using HPLC. I've completed coursework for a M.S. Chemical Physics from Norfolk State University. After being offered a Teaching Assistantship, I taught multiple chemistry laboratory classes. My graduate research focuses on synthesizing organic monomers for Photovoltaic applications; however, I have assisted with research devoted to immobilizing enzymes onto solid supports at the Center for Mate ... read more

I have informally tutored people of various age ranges in the subjects, physics and math , for a period that ranges over about three years . I have taught younger relatives as well as helped people informally on online tutoring message boards with math and physics problems. I have also been paid to assist students in how to operate the basic commands of computational mathematical software for three years as well.
I would be glad to work with students of all ages, but I prefer to work with a student individually rather than work with students in a group. From both my experience of being an informal tutor and being tutored, I find that students general prefer this style of tutoring because the tutor can both focus and better access their student's strengths and weaknesses in the particular academic subject they are having difficulty with.

I have taught AP Biology for one year, and 5 standard biology classes on block scheduling. I have also taught 3 standard earth science classes and one honors earth science. I am qualified to teach all sciences but my concentration in college was in biology. 50% of my students have scored 3 or above on the EOC for Biology. I have taught all my students to handwrite all of their lab reports to fit with current standards in science. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching philosophy is simple and contains three parts. Part one: The concept or topic is easy, regardless of what it is, it just must be broken down to its most basic elements. This is my job to do for the student. Once this is done for the student it will be shown that the perceived “complexity of the subject” is simply a compilation of basic elements of the subject, from here the topic can be built upon to more advanced levels; I am convinced this idea is not subject dependant. Part two: The student must decide that he or she can and will understand the subject matter and be successful in it. This too is a part of my job to encourage, motivate and instill confidence in the student. Part three: Practice, practice, and after that more practice. I will teach and encourage the student to constantly work on his or her new skills in the subject matter and as always review his or h ... read more

I earned both my Bachelor's and Master's in Applied and Physical Chemistry respectively from an accredited University in Nigeria. My basic and core science backgroung throughout my academic pursuit has enabled me to gain understanding and fit to teach many areas of mathematics and science. Having taught and tutored chemistry and science generally both in Africa (Nigeria) and the United States, I understand the best approach to teach and tutor different students from different cultural background. In addition, my experience as a high school mathematics and physics teacher as far back as 2000/2001, 2 years of instructing and tutoring at a community college coupled with 3 years of lecturing and tutoring in a university makes me fit for teaching in all levels of education, in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology.

Building a healthy relationship in a friendly learning environment where students feels comfortable and not intimated is essential to reducing anxieties, thereby allowing the student to express themselves and think freely, without pressure.I understand patience and tone of voice is vital to teaching critical thinking skills and strategies needed to perform the most challenging equations. I have experienced that if a student spends time talking their way through problems, they develop a better understanding of the process of problem solving. I ultimately understand that building self confidence provides a child with the self-assurance to learn independently, and develop a love and passion for learning all things

Whenever I have the opportunity to teach students the first thing that I am reminded of is the fact that I was once a student. I become very much aware of the difficulty students can face in trying to understand some physics concepts. It therefore becomes a very important task for me to be patient, detailed in my explanation and also very resourceful in helping students achieve success. As a teacher I also like to motivate the students to develop inquisitive minds so that they can become not only learners of science in the class but also applicators of its principles in their everyday life.
I have been able to earn degrees that ranges from an Associate of Science in Electrical Power Engineering to a Masters of Science degree in Physics. This has equipped me with the necessary skills needed to show students how to navigate their learning experience especially in physics. In addition ... read more

I love teaching and interacting with people. I gain great satisfaction from being able to help someone else understand something that they are unable to grasp on their own. I believe that students use different ways to learn. Such as visual versus auditory learning. I try to give each student the tools to be successful. I believe in explaining what they learned that day in class. Then, I like to have the student explain it to me. Also, I strongly believe in practice problems. I also employ the internet and interactive programs to help my students. I employ various methods and devise the best strategy with each individual.
I graduated from UNCW with a degree in Chemistry. I graduated with Magna Cum Laude distinction (GPA 3.804). I also, have extensive research experience. I knew that doing independent chemical research would allow me to gain knowledge that can't be taugh ... read more

I am most effective in a one-on-one setting with students and prefer that style of teaching. In this manner, I can explore the students strengths while working on their weaknesses in a given area
As a recent graduate, I have spent the last several years in the sub-teacher role learning classroom management and teaching techniques. I have also explored certifications in BioWorks Technology making my experiences more well rounded.

My main technique for teaching physics is what I call the WOW factor. It makes physics interning to students and relate to things in their lives. When tutoring physics students, I first find out what knows and is the student’s background. Then I help them with particular problems by asking them a series of smaller questions. Thus making the students understand how they can solve the problems with what they know. Finally I refine their knowledge and techniques.
As a graduate student at DePual University I stated teaching phsics laboratories as teaching assistant. I have been tutoring physics on and off since I was in college. I have six years of teaching physics at Shaw University where I taught all levels of physics, physical science, and taught both semesters of physical chemistry. Developed new curricula including the design of conventional laboratory experiments as well as la ... read more
