My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Honors degree in applied marine biology: experienced marine tidal developer

I hold an honor's degree in marine biology and a masters degree in marine renewable energy. I have a strong scientific background performing environmental studies and development of marine tidal energy developments. I have previously privately tutored young adults from 12-18 years old. Whilst working towards my masters degree i was employed as a student ambassador with Plymouth University; trusted to teach and promote higher education to schools and colleges around England.
I am very adaptable and can either teach in a very structured format, or focus on a students specific area of need. The first teaching session focuses on the students needs, preferences and proffered teaching / study methods. I can use this information to tailor my teaching to your specific needs.

I teach with passion and enjoyment, which has always proved conducive to the learning process. I, myself, have always enjoyed being a student, and realized what qualities in teachers I found most effective. Patience, competency, articulation and good-natured humor go a very long way in education and I believe I possess those traits. Science, especially biology and chemistry, has always intrigued me. Since I was a child, I had always known that I wanted to study biology. I received a BA in Biology in May 2006 from CU. During my studies there, I focused on chemistry and received a minor in French. My coursework is quite varied, and I have experience writing scientific papers, laboratory reports, research papers, and essays. My educational philosophy is strongly influenced by Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. I approach teaching from that perspective, incorporating a variety of disciplines and media to build on a student's strengths, to have fun while learning, and to challenge areas (building new skills) where a student can benefit. I volunteered at Howard Gardner's Project Zero at Harvard to understand how to evaluate learning through qualitative and quantitative measurements. A Little Bit About Me...

It has been written about for centuries where one teacher made all the difference in the decisions that a student made for the rest of his or her life. I understand the great responsibility in being a teacher, especially with young, impressionable minds. I believe in presenting clear, up-to-date and as scientifically factual as possible information. A sentence I remember reading in a book by Marty Roberts explains a large portion of my teaching style: Knowledge should be pooled into the brain by the student, not pushed into the brain by the teacher.
