A Little Bit About Me...

For the past two years, I was the high school English teacher in a small, rural Alaskan village located on the Yukon River. This teaching position was very challenging--I had to teach several subjects, such as English, social studies, geography, art, keyboarding, drama, journalism, and digital photography. Since the high school was so small, (30 students), much of my teaching was one-on-one instruction. I have strong English skills, as well as a minor in history and a diverse liberal arts undergraduate education. Currently I am working on my Masters of Education degree, through a distance education program.

I am a graduate of North Carolina Central University with a BS in Exercise Science. I am currently attending NCCU to for a Licensure in teaching. The knowledge i received in undergrad allows me to be able to tutor students in all field. I have background in science and math along with physical education. A Little Bit About Me...

During my college career, I worked in lower income elementary schools to provide students an extra opportunity to heighten their reading skills through direct instruction. Through this experience I have gained new insight into teaching reading. I understand the importance of using small groups and one-on-one instruction. I have also had the chance to use Success for All, a different type of reading instruction. The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive).
