I have worked with children for many years and in many different settings. I have observed so many different learning styles and I strive, as a teacher, to be flexible enough to help a child learn using their strengths. I do not expect perfection but I do expect my students to work to their potential. I also believe that my students need to feel as though they can openly discuss any problems or concerns with me. As a music Education major, I studied the vocal techniques and instruments of piano, flute and piccolo. I have studied piano since age four - which is 28 years - from a private teacher by the name of Judy Nihlen. I have also been a member of a French Sorority in college, speaking almost fluent French. I have composed several musical compositions growing up and all throughout college. I arranged choral piece by W. A. Mozart from a Mozart aria. I also starred in an opera my sophomore year of college. I did all this while suffering from Aspergers disorder and tics due to tourettes syndrome and ADHD. My teaching experience started teaching in a pre-school with 4 year olds. I then taught 3rd grade for 1 year and kindergarten for 9 years. When I updated my certificate (just in the last year) I did some teaching in a mildly handicapped resource room. I feel my style of teaching is one of being a facilitator. I choose to interact with the student by asking questions so enabling them to reach the answer through their own thinking processes. The excitement of seeing their confidence build as they realize they can figure out problems independently is the reward of being an educator. I believe my job is to guide and support the student.

From 1999-2003, I have served as a third grade Teacher's Aide focusing on on reading, memorization and basic math tutoring. Since 1999, I also have tutored middle, high school, and college students in pre-algebra, algebra, geography, computer skills, writing, and grammar. My master's degree has trained me in learning techniques. In my experience, a person needs to be confident in him/herself in order to succeed. Learning of scholastic material is two fold: personal and academic development. As a psychology graduate I have a deep desire to help children both academically and socially. Prior to becoming a psychology major I spent two years studying Early Childhood Education. As a result, I am competent not only in the field of psychology, but in education as well. I have tutored elementary aged children in several courses. I have outstanding writing and reading skills.
