Tutor for Regular Elementary and Special Education

I have recently retired after 30+ years as an elementary special and regular education teacher. For the past 15 years I have also worked as a tutor for the city of White Plains. I have done extensive private tutoring for the past 20 years. For 17 years I worked as an elementary special education classroom teacher at New York Hospital in an out-patient day treatment program. This program involved elementary school age children who displayed severe emotional and academic difficulties and were unable to function in a regular school setting.
Multi-sensory, positive reinforcement approach with a focus on student involvment by the use of manipulatives for a hands on approach. I have also employed behavior modification programs in the classroom setting when necessary.

I graduated from St. Joseph's College in May 2012 after four years at the college. I received a bachelors degree of cum laude in English Secondary Education and a minor in Speech communications. I am in the process of receiving my New York State Certification in secondary education in grades 7-12 with an extension for grades 5 and 6. I only have one more test to pass in order to receive my New York State certification.

Poetry is one of my top subjects! I plan to be a english teacher in the coming years after completing my MAT and poetry will be at the fore front of my curriculum. Not only is it a powerful tool of personal visualization using techniques like alliteration to personification it is a powerful tool of expression. With a semi-confined space people often pack a good deal of emotion into each stanza and choose every word carefully.

After finishing my masters degree at Sacred Heart in Elementary Education, I accepted a position as a special ed aide for a boy in the third grade with severe learning disabilities. The following school year I was teaching second grade in the Bridgeport Public Schools.
