I like to provide a variety of activities for my tutoring experiences. In my past tutoring experiences for language arts I did everything from flash cards of sight words, to word games, and short stories, to poetry. I also incorporated a lot of nonfiction text within the students interests range because LPS seems to be pushing more and more for students to have more advanced nonfiction skills in order to be successful on the NESA tests given in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. My style of teaching is one of direct questioning to be sure the student is understanding the information being povided, and the student is capable of retaining that knowledge. During my college years I worked closely with younger students who needed help with studies, and since my graduation from college continue to work with those that need assistance with various topics of learning. I have a wide range of capabilities including math, science, biology, public speaking, geography, and politics. While I work full time Monday through Friday during the day, I am available evenings and weekends.

As a college graduate and a mentor at a behavioral health facility I have gained valuable knowledge and confidence in one on one guidance. I have a BA in psychology and a BFA in studio arts and I am currently pursuing a place as a PhD candidate in the educational psychology program at UNL. I am experienced in math, english, psychology, and studio art. Also, I volunteered for the Lincoln Initiative for Tutoring program where I tutored elementary students after school and served as a role model. My teaching style is about positive feedback and patience. With my experience in psychology I have found that a calm nurturing environment lends itself to bolstering understanding for children. I teach to the student. I find exactly what their strengths are and incorporate it in some way to learn something new. I spent a year as a Substitute Teacher in Lincoln, NE. I then took a year and a half break from teaching to recruit for a small college. I went back into teaching as a grade 7-12 mathematics teacher. I was responsible for the 7th grade through pre-calculus courses at Wheatland Public Schools in Madrid Nebraska. This school was then combined into Grant Public Schools. I graduated with a Biopsychology degree or otherwise known as Behavioral Neuroscience. This degree enabled me to study organic and inorganic chemistry, biology (immunology, biochemistry etc.), math (statistics, calculus) and 1 year of physics. My favorite class, however, was a psychology class called learning and behavior. That class has honed my teaching skills and I enjoyed using those skills while tutoring adolescents in a wide variety of subjects, high school teenagers prep for the ACT exam, working as a teaching assistant for organic chemistry and tutoring an autistic child.
