I am a patient person and teacher. I believe in letting the student think through the problems themselves. And if they need help, I am there for them. But I do not like to simply give them the answer. I want them to learn that they had the knowledge, they just needed to learn how to extrapolate it.
I am a recent University of Central Florida graduate and have a passion for helping others learn. While earning my BS in Biology, I tutored other students in Anatomy, Physiology, Physics, Calculus and most Biology courses.

More About This Tutor...

I'm a college professor at the University of Central Florida. I specialize in chemistry education. During my tenure as an instructor, I have encountered many students from a wide spectrum of backgrounds. I have successfully assisted these students to gain a strong comprehension and ability to apply physical science content in physics and chemistry.
My teaching philosophy is straightforward: teach your students as you would want to be taught, with enthusiasm, and with a passion for the subject combined with respect and understanding for the student. Chemistry is a subject that I have studied, practiced, taught, and enjoyed for the past 18 years. Effective teaching involves time, dedication, patience, understanding, firmness, and a sense of humor. True learning incorporates active participation by the student, inside as well as outside the classroom.

My tutoring experience has solidified my love for teaching. In my training, I was taught to be more of a guide than a lecturer, leading students through difficult subjects by suggestion and example rather than by rote statement of facts. I often approach teaching as puzzle solving. I will ask myself how I can best explain a topic to a student while also asking the student to look at the subject from different directions to search for a "solution" to the difficulty they may have understanding. My greatest joy comes when the realization is made, and I have learned to be patient until that moment comes.
I completed my BS in biology in 2007, and would like to go on to grad school. In the meantime, I am interested in tutoring because of the positive experience I had while tutoring in my college's writing center. I have a year's worth of tutoring experience and strong writing skill ... read more

As I have been training students and corporate members in communication, my clarity, conciseness and my effective body language have helped the students to understand the subjects clearly and obtain a deep mastery of the subjects. By teaching the students the thesis, the main points, and the glossary of the topic of any subject, I will make the subjects simple, logical, interesting, and easily comprehensible. I have a sincere love for the students and take real pleasure in developing in them knowledge and productive habits. Wouldn't you like to have me as a tutor!
I taught math and English to 9th and 10th grade students for 2 years. My capacity for imparting knowledge to the students was so profound that I was considered as a very effective teacher. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that you have to be very hands on and provide more than one style of teaching. One needs to be able to teach for the visual and auditory sensory by being able to provide visuals but then also to describe the material in multiple ways.
I would aid as an assistant tutor in many of my undergraduate classes and help lead study groups before test. I would also review the test in a post test study group to help people understand why they did not fully understand the question either how it was worded or if they just completely missed the question all together but ultimately help prepare for a midterm or final. Since my mother is a high school science teacher I would also go into her classroom and help her in the classroom and lab to be able to help provide the students more one on one attention and elaborate and simplify some of the material that was being taught.

At college I worked as a tutor for two years in the areas of chemistry and mathematics. I earned BA's in chemistry and biochemistry and have some laboratory experience. Having been educated at a liberal arts school has also given me the opportunity to study philosophy and sociology. I also write well, as writing is emphasized in all disciplines of study at Knox. Previous to my college education, I was also active in my tutoring program in high school.
The most important part of teaching is to teach students the principle or concept behind a subject. I do not believe in making students memorize absurdly large lists of facts in order to pass a test. Learning should be more fundamental than that. When a student has been successfully taught something, the student should be able to solve an array of problems with a common theme.
