My comments on tutoring Earth Science : Perhaps my most enjoyable class since you get to take a good look at all the components that make up our world! In addition, I taught Earth Science as a High School Science Teacher.

I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. Ex. cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems,etc.....! By understanding the make-up of cellular structures and relating that to tissue functions the students can fully understand a subject. This proves true with all subjects. By impowering the student with good base fundamentals, my students find it easier to link concepts together.

My experience as a tutor began in the 1990s tutoring associates at United Space Alliance, Houston that had not completed degrees. My name was added to assist high school and junior high students at risk in Math, History and English at Clear Creek High School near the JSC/NASA campus. I met during my lunch hour (on my time) to assist students. The position without pay at the school lasted for approximately one year. I became involved in another NASA project that would not allow me to use my lunch time at the same time each day. I like the child to feel comfortable with me to where they are at ease and readily ask questions. I prefer to ask the student leading questions to aide them in coming to the conclusion on their own as opposed to simply telling them information. After a few questions have been answered then I am able to help them with the details of problem and a help them build a method for solving similar problems in the future.
