During my undergraduate years, I often found myself tutoring fellow students. Eventually I got a job working for the math and science tutoring center on campus. I tutored students in my own classes and others, and I also helped teach a vertebrate anatomy lab. I am currently a Master's student in biology, and while biology is my field, I am also an accomplished writer. I feel comfortable helping students in a variety of fields, especially basic mathematics, science, and writing. I am a creative, patient teacher. I know that everyone learns differently, so I try to come up with many different ways to explain a concept. I love to see the sudden understanding in a student's eyes when they finally understand a difficult concept. This is what makes teaching an addictive and highly fulfilling activity for me.

I believe that when students develop a certain level of self confidence, learning comes easier. I place great importance on a student's learning style. While at the California Science Center, where I worked as a science exhibit developer for six years, I learned the value of a constructivist approach to learning. I am not fixed on one approach to tutoring; I determine how a child learns and try to present the material in a variety of ways until the child "gets it." For the past five years I have been a substitute teacher for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. I worked in science classrooms for Grades 6 through 8 at three intermediate schools, as well as for two high schools. In addition, I worked in 2nd through 5th Grade classrooms teaching multiple subjects. I hold a 30 Day Credential as a substitute. I enjoy what I do. I love seeing students achieve their goals. The first thing I have always told my students was that there isn't anything you can't do if you want it bad enough. I went back to school at the age of 41 to get my degree. My goal is to provide the student with the best possible education, tempered with understanding and compassion. All children can learn and are capable, if given an opportunity and support. I have always tried very hard to make a difference in my students lives. I have taught K through 12 grades. I have a Bachelors Degree, Multisubject Clear Dredential, a Spanish Authorization and a CLAD endorsement. I have 39 credits above my Bachelors.
