My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : For the past 5 years I have worked with 4th grade students in school classrooms as well as tutored for FCAT Writes test. I have many tips and techniques to use when tutoring a student in writing.

As an English major in Education at the University of Alabama, I took many specialized courses in writing and reading. I learned many techniques for teaching creative writing and reading comprehension skills. For the past five years I have tutored students in FCAT writes techniques, reading skills and comprehension, and basic mathematics. In my position of Title I teaching assistant I taught small groups (6 or less students) and one-on-one reading, phonics, and comprehension as well as creative writing.
I absolutely love teaching and working with children. Children learn in unique and individual ways and sometimes struggle in school work because they learn at a different pace than the class as a whole. Individual and small group instruction greatly benefits these children in many ways. They have a chance to ask questions, to deal with specific areas of difficulty and to ha ... read more

My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : I grew up in Florida, so I am familiar with the content.

Although I have never tutored professionally, I have had extensive experience tutoring friends and family in need. I am experienced in tutoring young children as well as classroom peers at my level. I have two bachelor degrees from UCF, Bio-medical Science and Psychology, and I feel confident in my ability to help anyone learn. I'm looking to earn extra money while completing my Master's degree at UCF.

I love being able to spread my knowledge to aid in one's understandings of a subject. I believe there are countless variations in the way one learns a particular subject. Furthermore, each individual must find the way he or she learns best to master their educational endeavors. Having attempted most every way to discover my particular “successful study habits”, I am dedicated to helping each child discover his or her own way. Being only 22, I can connect with children and teens to promote a comfortable environment that is beneficial to the mastering of a subject. Regardless of one’s background, I believe each child can truly excel. I look forward to helping your child succeed in the classroom while building their confidence.

A Little Bit About Me...

Knowledge is a gift that lasts a lifetime, and, coupled with compassion, goes a long way toward improving a child's life by making each experience more meaningful and fulfilling. It is with passion and persistence that I impart my knowledge and compassion to each child I have the opportunity to teach. But not until children know you care do they care what you know. It is important that they understand not only what you are trying to do, but why. Each child understands in a different way, and therefore must be taught in their unique "language of learning." Through time, discipline, and determination, I strive to speak their language and teach them lessons that will last a lifetime.

I am passionate about helping students to achieve academic success. I love the challenge of discovering the strategies that best match a student's individual strengths and learning style. I provide a positive learning environment that fosters the student openness and trust necessary for growth and learning to occur. My students have described me as “respectful,” “helpful,” and “caring,” and they recently responded with a 98% teacher effectiveness rating on an anonymous public middle school classroom climate survey. I have seen in my career that all students can achieve their academic goals when given appropriate, positive, learning experiences. I am thrilled to be entrusted with the awesome responsibility and privilege of teaching.

My belief is that all students want to learn. We as teachers must find the way they need to learn. I truly love to teach. I try to relate to the whole child and find which learning style meets his or her needs. I am extremely proud of the response I have received over the pass 20 years.
I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I started teaching in the fall of 1985 in Tampa. After that first year I moved and I taught a few years in Ohio. In 1989 I moved to Brevard County and worked as an elementary school teacher. I received my degree in Educational Leadership in 1996. I now tutor and work part time with small groups.

Very hands on type of person. I am the type of person that needs visual reminders to get my work done. I know that everyone learns in different capacities so I try to incorporate that into my teaching style. I work on identifying the students learning style and then we go from there.
I am currently working at Challenger 7 Elementary School as the only Guidance Counselor. I have created a study group club with students that need study skills, organizational skills or assistance getting their work done! I have been employed as a substitute teacher and mental health counselor in the past. I enjoy working with students because a lot of their stress is due to frustration of not knowing a concept. If you work with the students on their frustration you begin to see improvement in their grades!

I do not have a particular teaching style. I am trained to teach different styles, but it is my goal to get to know every child as an individual and figure out the best way for that child to learn. I also realize one type of style may not be the best for every subject matter. After having 3 children of my own, I can say without a doubt that every child is different and what may work for one will not work for the other. Unfortunately, teachers today have class sizes that are to big to take the needed time to work with students individually and learn what each student in their class needs as individuals.
Ever since I was in sixth grade, I have had opportunities to help children learn and see the benefits first hand from what I taught them. When I graduated from high school, I followed a different career path, but after a terrible car accident that left me unable to fly airplanes, ... read more

Here is Some Good Information About Florida Writes Tutoring

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive). Florida Writes is difficult for some students. Give your child an edge by selecting a tutor today on your terms, on your schedule, to suit your needs and within budget.
