A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught mathematics in grades 3 through college. I especially enjoy working with high school students and college algebra and trigonometry students. Since my retirement from college teaching I have been tutoring at Sylvan Learning, teaching some grade school math, algebra, geometry and ACT prep.
I especially enjoy working one-on-one with students because I am able to concentrate on his/her weaknesses. I like to use manipulatives and concrete examples whenever possible. After introducing a concept I work out examples with the student, then have him/her work through several examples while I watch and, finally, have the student work independently on a set of problems. If there are still errors I try to approach the concept from a different perspective and then repeat the process.

I love teaching and working with young people of all ages and abilities. It is my belief that all students have the ability to learn, so they can succeed and gain the confidence in their abilities. In order to help children reach their highest potential, I believe that each one should be given personalized and individualized instruction that is based on their given abilities and skills.
