My comments on tutoring Physics : Took both college-level, calculus-based, general physics courses. Topics: Newton's laws, angular motion, kinematics, inertia, momentum, electrical, magnetic, and basic concepts involving circuit boards.

Tutored on TutorSelect.come before a few years back and successfully tutored over ten individual students as well as a couple of group sessions with in between 2 and 4 students. All the students I tutored were either in high school or college. My topic I predominately tutor and that I most enjoy tutoring is mathematics. I've taken Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, all three college Calculus courses, and Differential Equations. I also took both college-level General Chemistry courses and both calculus-based Physics courses. I also was responsible in most of my classes for developing a weekly schedule for tutoring/studying course topics with fellow classmates and friends. I enjoy any math based or related science topics, enjoy problem solving, and working with people. I Aslo helped both of my younger siblings learn math and chemistry related topics.

Physics is one of my top subjects!

I am a calm, patient, and easy-going person who loves learning and loves helping others to learn. I enjoy adapting to different learning styles, and want to help each student to the greatest extent I am able to. I try to strike the correct balance between allowing students to work problems out themselves and giving them guidance. The subject areas I focus in are generally considered difficult, but I believe that with guidance, and perhaps a more constructive mindset, the problems can become enjoyable and achievable puzzles.
As a masters degree holding physicist I have an extensive background in both physics and mathematics. Additionally, as a published author and the author of many research papers and lab reports I have considerable grammatical skills, and writing experience. My whole educational career tutoring my classmates and siblings has come as second nature to me, but I ... read more

No drudgery!

I solve problems. I am a bioanalytical chemist and biomedical engineer. This profession requires using math, statistics, biology and chemistry at a high level on a daily basis as I develop products that improve healthcare. I have taught or tutored science and math from elementary to post-college level for over 25 years in diverse settings.
Student-led and interactive. No lectures. No drudgery. I focus on the process of solving problems. Restate the question. Draw diagrams. Figure out what information is missing. How can I get that information? Can it be calculated or is an estimate good enough? What sources are reliable?

Professional Exam Prep and Subject Tutoring

I am a professional tutor for middle school, high school, and college level mathematics, physics, and SAT/ACT Prep. My tutoring expertise is based in four and a half years of experience as the Head Tutor for the Physics and Mathematics departments at the University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA), three cumulative years of SAT/ACT Prep experience, and a deep passion for helping students embrace their unique potentials and reach new heights.
During my time as Head Tutor at UNCA, regardless of department, I tutored over 200 students in mathematics and physics. Of those students, at least 80% saw an increase of at least one letter grade and at least 20% saw an increase by two letter grades. Many students I tutored in one subject came back to be for tutoring in the other. For many of my students I served as an invaluable mentor who guided them from their earliest days as a colleg ... read more

More About This Tutor...

All who wish to learn have but to ask for help. I believe anyone can learn anything they want and that no one deserves to be told otherwise. In tutoring math, the individual needs to have their homework present and, if available, old/recent tests so they may learn from the past as well as the present. Math adds unto itself, so understanding previous rules and equations are necessary for applying them to future classes. Once the basics are covered properly, seeing to the need for current classes will become much easier and enjoyable. I tutor by example, or refining what has been taught, in such a way that the individual can understand math in day to day events, or how its applied to his/her interests.
Though I am a student of Biotechnology, helping others in the field of mathematics has been of interest in that its a common “language” worldwide. Prior to completing my General ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Over several years as a teacher, tutor, and teaching assistant I have had the privilege of refining my teaching strategy. For example, as a physics tutor, I coached a high school senior who was intimidated with the subject how to master it using a simple reproducible foundation. I have also life changing testimonials other science subjects. My academic achievements include PhD in biology and a BS with a joint Chemistry with Physics degree. I am always fascinated at the prospect of permanent uplifting a student's.
I teach with the assumption that everyone can learn anything. At the core of my teaching philosophy is the mental model or concept. Consequently, my first goal is to determine if the student has a mental model of the subject matter. If not, I will guide them in discovering a useful one using their existing models and their preferred input mode (tactile, visual, etc.). If a ... read more

My personal teaching philosophy includes: Treating all students with absolute equality, regardless of age, gender, nationality, intellectual ability or personal attractiveness. The vast majority of students are capable of learning a large amount and achieving high quality. They are not motivated enough to participate up to their capacity. I attempt to motivate students to learn not by fear, but by involvement. A learning environment for students is a safe environment where students can make mistakes comfortably. It is my job to create this environment. Enthusiasm is critical to good teaching, and students have a sixth sense for it.
I have more than 35 years of experience in both research and teaching physics and math. I have extensive experience in tutoring students in physics and math, mentoring undergraduates in research, and in supervising of graduate students a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My professional tutoring experience began in 1986, when I started work as a graduate teaching assistant in physics. Since then I have taught physics and mathematics--from counting to calculus--in students' homes, in K-12 school and at university. In 2009, I coached general math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability and pre-calculus for a private K-12 academy in Durham and also taught both of its math summer sessions. Currently I tutor students through my own home-office private practice and through an independent local tutoring franchise. I also work as a contract tutor with Measurement Inc., through which I provide Title I/Supplementary Educational Services in elementary math and reading to low-income public school students.
My general teaching style is whole-person and learner-centered, with an approach tailored to each student's individual needs, aptitude and attitude. I ... read more
