I have ten years of experience as an ESOL teacher. I began my career in Costa Rica in 2001 and upon returning to Sarasota began working for Sarasota County Technical Institute. I then moved to Barcelona, Spain to obtain the Cambridge CELTA certificate from International House and spent the next eight years teaching classes to all ages and levels. I have been a fluent Spanish speaker for over 15 years and although not a a native speaker, I and others consider me to be a fluent speaker and writer of Spanish. I have been working at the same local elementary school since November 2006 working with EBD and VE student, tutoring students one on one and in small groups of up to four and five. I have an A.A. degree in General Education and Music and plenty of experience tutoring elementary school age. I love using manipulatives with all subjects. It makes learning fun even for those that are frustrated with the subject. Since everyone learns in a different way I need to teach the material in different ways to find out which way is best for that student. My teaching style is one that is more interactive than instructional. Having a love of knowledge and learning, I have always been interested in teaching. I tutored other students both officially and unofficially from grade school through college level. Just last year I spent most of the year instructing students in various computer-related subjects. I have always been proficient in Math and Sciences, as well as good knowledge of history, social studies, and all other general subjects.
