My comments on tutoring GED : I have been helping students pass the GEDs for over 8 years. I have worked for large test prep companies in the past. I have worked with many school districts offering affordable GED tutorial sessions.

Most tutors merely act as a solutions manual for off the shelf test prep books. I believe in providing my students a fully comprehensive curricula that covers both strategy and subject matter. Every student learns differently and at their own pace. I strongly believe in diagnosing and targeting student's weak areas.
I have enjoyed tutoring since high school. During college, I tutored college level math and chemistry. After college I worked for a large test prep company teaching SAT prep courses in various high schools. My education background is in biology (BA Molecular & Cell Biology, UC Berkeley) so I especially love tutoring science and math. My expertise is in standardized test prep (mainly SAT and GRE for graduate schools). My experience is not only tutoring and teaching, but also developing test prep material for both SAT and GREs

A Little Bit About Me...

I stated tutoring privately and through the college when I was a student myself to see if teaching was something I wanted to do as a career. I tutored all my college years and realized that this is exactly what I want to wake up for every day. I earned my BS and single subject in Mathematics from Fresno State University. I have worked with students at all levels. I have tutored students as young as 5th graders and gone through levels of math from basic math to some graduate courses. I have been teaching for 9 years at high school up to pre-calculus. I teach because I want students to feel the same passion for math as I do and not be intimidated by it as lots of students are of mathematics.
I think each student is differnt and so is their learning style. As a teacher I want my student to find their confidence in math which mostly comes when they understand the subject completely. I ... read more

As a recent graduate from UC Berkeley, I have always held the upmost interest and passion in helping students achieve the best they could. My experience in the teaching field has been primarily as a substitute on a daily basis. I have some long-term sub assignments in my resume as well. For the past 7 years I have limited my assignments to "Home/Hospital". I meet 5 hours per week with each student to provide complete instruction in all subject areas for the student(s) unable to be in the regular classroom setting due to illness. It is very much a tutoring situation as 5 hours per week is not nearly enough to provide the detailed instruction available on a daily basis.
It seems to me that everyone can learn, in different ways and at different times. My approach is to have several options of which approach will be successful. Being a 1:1 teacher allows me the freedom and time to work with a student on a concept in a number of ways until the cognition sets in for him. Being enthusiastic and excited about the learnin ... read more
