My focus has been to take the material and translate it from the often-impenetrable form found in textbooks to a more accessible, practical presentation. I prefer to characterize mathematics as a language skill where, as in most language classes, exposure to a idea should be followed by enough repeated practice to develop a confidence in its implementation. While at Humboldt State, I completed the College Faculty Preparation Program. This program significantly improved my teaching pedagogy. With regards to tutoring, I feel that it is extremely important to understand and draw on the student’s learning style. As a kinesthetic learner, I frequently promote tactile learning while also introducing elements of visual, auditory, and/or reading/writing exercises, depending on what works best for the student.
