A Little Bit About Me...

As a psychology major, at the beginning of my education, I discovered that I had a love and talent for mathematics. Thus I pursued a dual degree in Psychology and Math. I started tutoring algebra and calculus as soon as I learned the subjects, recieving straight A's all through community college. In the Psychology Department I ended up teaching my own statistics class, later teaching statistics as a community college instructor for the Los Angeles College District. For psychology, I have conducted many quantitative and qualitative research projects, developing a strong background as a quantitative analyst. I love to teach and conduct statistical research.

I have 10 years of experience teaching math and computer classes part-time at Humboldt State University and College of the Redwoods. I have taught classes in arithmetic, pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, calculus and statistics. I worked at the Tutoring Club in Folsom, CA for 1 year. I tutored a variety of age groups, mostly high school age, in mathematics up through calculus, chemistry, biology and physics. I also worked at the learning center through Humboldt State University for about a year. Other than that, I have had multiple students for private tutoring sessions since 2005. So I have about 4 years experience in tutoring overall. I obtained 5 associates degrees from American River College in May 2007. A Little Bit About Me...

While at Humboldt State, I completed the College Faculty Preparation Program. This program significantly improved my teaching pedagogy. With regards to tutoring, I feel that it is extremely important to understand and draw on the student’s learning style. As a kinesthetic learner, I frequently promote tactile learning while also introducing elements of visual, auditory, and/or reading/writing exercises, depending on what works best for the student. I’m patient and considerate but feel that it is important to set high expectations for each of my students.
