My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : As an educational psychologist in various school districts I evaluated students for dyslexia. I then worked with the teachers to find the most effective way to work with these students.

I have taught in Michigan and in California. I also have credentials as a school counselor and psychologist. I have experience with all aspects of the special education system from the K through grade 12 level. This incudes testing, placement and re-evaluation and the IEP process. I also have worked at the post secondary level and am familiar with academic and financial aide requirements.
I am very aware of the necessity of adapting my teaching style to the learning modality of those I am working with. As an educator I evaluated students to define how they best process information. They may be auditory learners, visual learners or they may use a combination approaches. I am very patient and understand that everyone can learn. I believe in setting goals and evaluating progress to establish new goals when necessary.

I am a natural teacher, and my experiences reflect that. For example, I am currently working my way through CSU Palm Desert's multiple subject credential. However, the open position I am applying for requires an “Adult Education Writing Tutor”. As a student and professional, I have had many, many opportunities to hone my writing craft. For example, as an adjunct to my recent studies, I took the Masters "Writing 101" class, which instructed me (among other things) in the finery of APA format. While my in-class performances certainly indicates my ability to write at the graduate level, it is also my professional teaching experience that I believe will convince you to allow me to deliver your services: I possess valuable experience working with students, having several years of small classroom leadership (and one-on-one instruction) with adult learners.
