I have put a lot of thought and effort into my teaching style. I love teaching and love working with all types of students. I believe in learning through a hands-on approach and through real-world applications. I beleive that all students have the potential to succeed and there is no such thing as a "dumb kid." I am a hands on teacher. I can verbally explain things and then i like to utilize different techniques to ensure the children understand what i am explaning. I am opening to different teaching styles because each child learns differently. I have currently worked at the Herkimer ARC for the past eight years. I have alot of experience working with people with disabilites from severe Mental Retardation, Cerebal Palsy,Autism, Learning Disability and Mental Heath. I have obtained a degree from Herkimer College in applied science with a minor in education. I also went to Mohawk Valley Community College for two years to obtain a degree in Nursing. As an oboist, I have studied for over 11 years with notable teachers from Oberlin & Eastman lineage. I earned my Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance from Nazareth College of Rochester in 2009. While there I had the opportunity to tutor in their community music program and took classes on studio teaching. Besides teaching credentials My music career has given me the opportunity to perform extensively on both Oboe and Flute in the US and the Bahamas. Music History is also very important to me and I intend to pursue my Master's in Musicology, where I will be focusing on the music of the Soviet era. I approach teaching on an individual level. I have worked with Middle School age youth for almost a decade. I am Site Coordinator at an after school program & run a science focused club there. I also occasionally help the students who have been removed from our Homework Room with a number of subjects. I enjoy imparting my knowledge to my students via a variety of hands on learning activities and have always been a keen math, science and language arts student myself. Throughout school, I also played every woodwind instrument except the Oboe. While in college, I took every Agricultural Education class offered, as it is my intended area of post graduate study, and gained a grasp of educational psychology, classroom management and lesson planning.
