A Little Bit About Me...

I have the ASL books from my classes and also believe seeing and doing are better teaching tools than a book.
I have been actively learning ASL since 2009 and have completed levels 1-4 with a B or higher. I have taken the lab classes to help improve my skills while interacting with other ASL students and a deaf teacher. I am an active volunteer with the deaf community and have several deaf and hard of hearing friends that have helped make learning ASL that much easier.

American Sign Language Tutor

I believe that it is best for the student to let me know what needs they have in order for me to help them become more fluent in sign language. Once we have accessed your skills, then we can move on to improve them. I can go through vocabulary with the student. I can give the students signed as well as written tests. I am also willing to accompany the student to deaf socials where they can practice their sign language skills with deaf persons.

American Sign Language Teacher/Tutor

Itaught two different schools for the Deaf, one in Maine and one in Fremont, CA for 46 years. Then I was an Americn Sign Language teacher at Delta College in the year of 2011. Last year, I was a full time ASL teacher at the Valley Christian High School in Dublin. And now I am an ASL teacher at Los Medanos College in Brentwood. I am very experienced with ASL as I am Deaf but can speak and read lips very well. Teaching has always been my passion and I enjoy working with people of all ages very much. I have a Master's degree plus 15 units from University of Maine, Portland-Gorham after I graduated from Gallaudet Unversity in Washington D.C. Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I have grown up with a sibling who is Deaf and always used sign language to communicate and I have been an Interpreter for more than 15 years and was NAD IV certfified in 2000. In addition, I have an ESSE V certification.

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my life, I have always felt very strong about achieving a high level of education. As a older sibling to a child that had a learning disability, I felt it was my responsiblity to help him achieve a high school diploma. From the age of six years old to his senior year in high school, I tutored my brother in all subjects, from math and english to electives. From this experience, I was able to help other children improve their level of education as well.
I enjoy teaching and helping all children. I am a strong believer that all children can be taught all subjects, and should be given the opportunity to do just that.
