I have the ASL books from my classes and also believe seeing and doing are better teaching tools than a book.
I have been actively learning ASL since 2009 and have completed levels 1-4 with a B or higher. I have taken the lab classes to help improve my skills while interacting with other ASL students and a deaf teacher. I am an active volunteer with the deaf community and have several deaf and hard of hearing friends that have helped make learning ASL that much easier.

American Sign Language Tutor

I have taken all the sign language courses at Modesto Junior College (these classes are of the same curriculum as Stanislaus State). I received an "A" on all of my coursework. I then was asked by the sign language instructor at MJC to become her teaching assistant. I was in charge of teaching on my own when the instructor was called away to business. I instructed the students under the direction of the instructor. I tutored the students in the tutoring center at MJC.
I believe that it is best for the student to let me know what needs they have in order for me to help them become more fluent in sign language. I have worked nearly two decades in the educational system as a Sign Language Interpreter. I have experience with K-12, Community College, and University levels. I worked as Mentor for a K-12 school district with 13 Mentees for five years. A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my life, I have always felt very strong about achieving a high level of education. As a older sibling to a child that had a learning disability, I felt it was my responsiblity to help him achieve a high school diploma. From the age of six years old to his senior year in high school, I tutored my brother in all subjects, from math and english to electives. From this experience, I was able to help other children improve their level of education as well.
I enjoy teaching and helping all children. I am a strong believer that all children can be taught all subjects, and should be given the opportunity to do just that. I am always willing to teach the child, in the best way that will help them, whether this be through explanation, or through a hands on approach.
