Shauna W - Santaquin, UT 84655 (7.6 mi) - Computer Programming Tutor - $35.50/hr.
I like the tutoring environment because I like seeing individual progress. It is easier to assess where the child is. I believe that the basics are essential to moving forward in education. Memorization of math facts makes it easier for a child to learn new material because he isn't bogged down. I don't believe enough emphasis is placed on arithmetic in today's schools. Basic arithmetic skills make story problems easier. Types of story problems need to be practiced, not just thrown in at the end of a chapter without much information on how to do it.
I am patient and punctual. I like being with students. I did my internship at Springville High School and Dixon Middle School. At Dixon I was selected to help teach adults about the computer. I have 9 children. I was able to teach each of them. Some of them have gone on to higher education and have scholarships. I still have some

Chandler H - Provo, UT 84606 (12.7 mi) - Computer Programming Tutor - $36.50/hr.
My most important quality for tutoring is a passion for education. I believe that good learning is based in appreciating the value of the subject matter, and when I teach I strive to make the material relevant to the student. Even students with great willpower do not learn very effectively when they are not interested in the material.
I also teach with analogies and comparisons. People learn best by seeing similarities and differences between new concepts and concepts they are familiar with. Even the most difficult concepts can become clear when illuminated by good analogies and comparisons. Many students do not realize that they are just as capable as other students but need to approach the subject from a different angle. I have been very successful throughout school. I'm a Presidential Scholar, Toyota Scholar, Gordon B. Hinckley Scholar, and a Chicago Tribune Scholar. I've ta

Degao X - Lindon, UT 84042 (20 mi) - Computer Programming Tutor - $38.00/hr.
I got my BS, MS and Ph.D degrees in Physics. I had been a professor at a university in China for five years, a teaching assistant/tutor at Brigham Young University for five years and an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University for one semester. I can teach/tutor fundamental physics and math courses. First of all, I like teaching physics and math. Many students complained that physics was too hard for them to learn. I think the main problem is that they learned it too fast and couldn’t understand the basic concepts. They need some more time and patience to figure out the basic mechanisms and develop the necessary skills and abilities to solve the concrete problems. These skills/abilities are so critical if they want to pursue a career in the areas of engineering and science in their future lives. I usually encourage students to use their full potentials to solve their “hard” problems.

Education is important to me and love to see the doors that are open because of excellence in education. I have earned a bachelor degree in Mathematics and have also completed and master degree in Statistics, which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of both math and statistics. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers, along with essays in many various areas of study. Through the years I have tutored students in mathematics, statistics, Spanish, and various computer languages. I love teaching and working with all people both young and older.
