My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Was a Marine Biology minor in college. I also worked for over a year and half as a Marine Mammal Biologist.

I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. Ex. cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems,etc.....! By understanding the make-up of cellular structures and relating that to tissue functions the students can fully understand a subject. This proves true with all subjects. By impowering the student with good base fundamentals, my students find it easier to link concepts together.
I obtained a B.S. in Biology, with a concentration in aquatic science, from Wittenberg University in 2006. During my undergraduate studies, I tutored elementary students i ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

During my year as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Earth Ethics Institute, a non-profit organization at Miami Dade College, I was responsible for the successful execution of five high-profile programs. I strengthened my ability to multitask and was able to effectively implement each program’s components at their full potential and capabilities. I became accustomed to working independently under strict deadlines and overseeing many service-learning college students who assisted with events. As many of these service-learners regarded me as a role-model, I committed myself to bringing out their full potentials while mentoring them through their college experiences. I was considered the unofficial technological assistant of my workplace due to my proficiency at Microsoft Office and my ability to work at an exceedingly fast pace. In addition to this, my co-workers often request that I overview ... read more

15 years experience in a broad variety of subjects!

I have a way of perceiving the difficulty the student has, and am able to explain the material in a simple way that makes it easy for students to grasp. I have a good rapport with my student and have had several that have told me that I am the best teacher they have ever had(which didn't hurt my ego!!) I also have a good sense of humor which puts students at ease- and it is proven that a tense mind can not learn, only when the student loses their anxiety over the material will they absorb it!
I have been tutoring for over 15 years both in students homes or at public locations such as coffee shops or the public library. My education and experience are broad. I was educated at "Ivy League" level schools and purposefully educated myself in a large variety of the humanities, which in essence all tie together. Basic courses up through most High School material outside of the Humanit ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is my passion, and the 24 years of teaching experience have taught me great lessons. I have always felt a sense of pride and satisfaction of a job well done. For me it is an investment made in each child for a lifetime. For me teaching is the most rewarding profession, as I see the progress in each child that I have taught and worked hard with, for a whole year. I am patient and believe that every child is different and so their needs and ability to learn also vary. I love to work with children.I will do my best to teach and help the child who needs guidance to achieve excellence in academics. My goal is to see the children be great achievers. And I give it my all to see that happen.

I would aid as an assistant tutor in many of my undergraduate classes and help lead study groups before test. I would also review the test in a post test study group to help people understand why they did not fully understand the question either how it was worded or if they just completely missed the question all together but ultimately help prepare for a midterm or final. Since my mother is a high school science teacher I would also go into her classroom and help her in the classroom and lab to be able to help provide the students more one on one attention and elaborate and simplify some of the material that was being taught.
I believe that you have to be very hands on and provide more than one style of teaching. One needs to be able to teach for the visual and auditory sensory by being able to provide visuals but then also to describe the material in multiple ways.

I like to teach via real life examples and real life applications. Each student has a unique learning style, and it is my goal to learn what that style is and to teach him/her how to master the material accordingly. I am a strong believer in a hands-on approach to science and math. People learn best by experience. Although having book knowledge is important to understanding the basic principals, hands-on experience will help students better master the material.

I struggled with learning in elementary and middle school and it was not until high school and college that I began to love to learn. Through my own experiences, I have realized how important it is to have a teacher act as a guide to encourage growth and learning. I am open to all different educational techniques because I understand that every individual is different and learns in a different manner. I have tutored groups and individuals, and what I have learned is that it is important to be patient and consistent. I strive to inspire children to love to learn.

Since I have been closely associated with ITES in schools, I find especially challenging and motivating working with children of all ages because they are the most innovative and have a creative bent of mind if channelized in the right direction and it is up to the tutors to extract this enthusiasm and goad them to excel. I make my lessons informative and interesting via PowerPoint presentations and also like to make it interactive using various online tools thereby capturing the attention of children.
Change is the only constant of all things. Commenced my computer career as a Trainer in ITES to Managing trainers, a complete circle indeed in 12+ years of my professional career. Starting out as a trainer fresh out of school, and graduating into ITES after a decently long stint in the IT industry was a very interesting and memorable journey.
