My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Was a Marine Biology minor in college. I also worked for over a year and half as a Marine Mammal Biologist.

I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. Ex. cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems,etc.....! By understanding the make-up of cellular structures and relating that to tissue functions the students can fully understand a subject. This proves true with all subjects. By impowering the student with good base fundamentals, my students find it easier to link concepts together.

During my year as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Earth Ethics Institute, a non-profit organization at Miami Dade College, I was responsible for the successful execution of five high-profile programs. I strengthened my ability to multitask and was able to effectively implement each program’s components at their full potential and capabilities. I became accustomed to working independently under strict deadlines and overseeing many service-learning college students who assisted with events. As many of these service-learners regarded me as a role-model, I committed myself to bringing out their full potentials while mentoring them through their college experiences. I was considered the unofficial technological assistant of my workplace due to my proficiency at Microsoft Office and my ability to work at an exceedingly fast pace. In addition to this, my co-workers often request that I overview ... read more

15 years experience in a broad variety of subjects!

I have been tutoring for over 15 years both in students homes or at public locations such as coffee shops or the public library. My education and experience are broad. I was educated at "Ivy League" level schools and purposefully educated myself in a large variety of the humanities, which in essence all tie together. Basic courses up through most High School material outside of the Humanities are not difficult. Actually, while my education has been primarily in the Humanities, the material I see the most in tutoring is Algebra and Geometry!
I have a way of perceiving the difficulty the student has, and am able to explain the material in a simple way that makes it easy for students to grasp. I have a good rapport with my student and have had several that have told me that I am the best teacher they have ever had(which didn't hurt my ego!!) I also have a good sense of humor whic ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my years of tutoring I have found that there are many different ways that people learn. Once you figure this out learning is easy and enjoyable. I first go over what my students have been doing to learn and study the material. Once we have established their individual learning style, we go over what they can do to improve in that subject and perhaps with the overall learning of any material. I want my students to feel comfortable with the material, to understand it on many levels, not just to memorize the information. I strive to annihilate the fear students’ feel of any subject they know little about or have problems understanding. I want to make a difference in how people learn and how they feel about learning difficult or different materials.

I find it a lot easier to teach something you're passionate about. I have helped tutor people before in subjects outside my major, but couldn't give much insight. In those instances I just helped develop better organization and study skills. I also have experience working with special needs children and teenagers.
I have a lot of experience tutoring friends and classmates throughout my college career. There are a couple students I have worked with for a couple of years, who are people I met through school and work. I mainly tutored in English Composition and English Literature, as it is my main area of study and I'm very experienced in it. I'm back at UCF now as an English Major and am taking classes in Communication Disorders because I eventually would like to work in Special Education. I have a lot of patience and a great understanding of how to help people learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught people of all ages, including children, students (elementary, high school and college), and the public through my early jobs as a swimming instructor, and my work as a teaching assistant and educational instructor. As a result, I have learned to target my lesson plans for specific audiences and to recognize the wide range of backgrounds and knowledge encountered in both formal and informal educational settings. I have taught classes involving lecture and laboratory instruction complemented by experiments in the field. I designed the syllabus, ordered supplies, set-up and broke-down lab equipment, supervised teaching assistants, and ensured that appropriate risk management policies were implemented and followed. I have also mentored several undergraduate research internships. While my teaching experience is diverse, it is by no means comprehensive, and I welcome the opp ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate I started to tutor Chemistry in 2007. Since then I have tutored Chemistry to many different students in one-on-one and large group sessions. I have submitted by certification to be accepted by the State of Florida Department of Education and am awaiting confirmation. While in college I made straight A's for about 3 years, excelling in the sciences. I am very experienced with General Chemistry labs and lecture sessions. I am currently the Science Teacher at the First Academy Classical School program where I teach Biology and Chemistry part-time.
I love to cater to each students needs. That's why I love tutoring because I can do this. Some students are visual learners, some learn by hearing, and some by doing. I incorporate all of these into my tutoring. I want to see all of my students not only get good grades but to truly grasp the concepts.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that authentic learning experiences are the most powerful. Each of us learns differently and for different reasons and we all have disabilities; some are just easier to see than others. Any true learning experience must begin with the educator understanding the learner. The purpose behind learning anything can not be dismissed using the rationale "because I said so". Still, I also believe that there is a skill set that we must all possess. Therefore, I believe that a curriculum should be followed but, in addition to a curriculum, an effective educator must be able to bring any lesson to life and insure that it is meaningful and memorable; only then can we be sure that the content was actually learned and retained.

The most rewarding feeling is to help a student achieve academic success. How I define this success is as individual as each student I work with. I believe that learning should be student centered; teaching students how to think rather than what to think. I believe that all children have the capacity to learn and be successful in school. It is my role to help them find what methods and strategies work for them. It is my privilege and honor to help your child reach his or her full potential.

I make sure that students completely understand the subject instead of just memorizing it. I do this by explaining the subject in multiple ways and focusing on the method that the student seems to understand the best. I take the responsibility of teaching very personally and make it my goal to make sure they are learning, understanding, and advancing.
During my time at University of Florida, I tutored at the student academic support center for many subjects including physics I and II, inorganic chem I and II, organic chem I and II, biology I and II, and Calculus I. I helped students there for a year and a half.

More About This Tutor...

I graduated from UCF in 2006 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, and I've been working as an engineer and project manager in the field ever since. My job requires several certifications that I've had to complete and pass, which is to say math and science are two subjects I use on a daily basis! Math and science are subjects I excelled at while in school and I do have some previous tutoring experience among family friends (the students I tutored were in middle school and high school).
I was involved with a youth program for most of my time in college, so I am able to relate easily to a variety of ages and work with them in such a way that they feel comfortable and confident. My teaching style is relaxed but still organized, and I do a good job of communicating with students no matter their learning style.
