My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : Was a Marine Biology minor in college. I also worked for over a year and half as a Marine Mammal Biologist.

I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your basic fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with basic fundamentals such as; note taking, study skills, and comprehension! All sciences demand the ability to link concepts together. Ex. cells make up tissues, tissues make up organs, organs make up organ systems,etc.....! By understanding the make-up of cellular structures and relating that to tissue functions the students can fully understand a subject. This proves true with all subjects. By impowering the student with good base fundamentals, my students find it easier to link concepts together.

15 years experience in a broad variety of subjects!

I have been tutoring for over 15 years both in students homes or at public locations such as coffee shops or the public library. My education and experience are broad. I was educated at "Ivy League" level schools and purposefully educated myself in a large variety of the humanities, which in essence all tie together. Basic courses up through most High School material outside of the Humanities are not difficult. Actually, while my education has been primarily in the Humanities, the material I see the most in tutoring is Algebra and Geometry!

Throughout my years of tutoring I have found that there are many different ways that people learn. Once you figure this out learning is easy and enjoyable. I first go over what my students have been doing to learn and study the material. Once we have established their individual learning style, we go over what they can do to improve in that subject and perhaps with the overall learning of any material. I find it a lot easier to teach something you're passionate about. I have helped tutor people before in subjects outside my major, but couldn't give much insight. In those instances I just helped develop better organization and study skills. I also have experience working with special needs children and teenagers.

As an undergraduate I started to tutor Chemistry in 2007. Since then I have tutored Chemistry to many different students in one-on-one and large group sessions. I believe that authentic learning experiences are the most powerful. Each of us learns differently and for different reasons and we all have disabilities; some are just easier to see than others. Any true learning experience must begin with the educator understanding the learner. The purpose behind learning anything can not be dismissed using the rationale "because I said so". I graduated from UCF in 2006 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, and I've been working as an engineer and project manager in the field ever since. My job requires several certifications that I've had to complete and pass, which is to say math and science are two subjects I use on a daily basis! Math and science are subjects I excelled at while in school and I do have some previous tutoring experience among family friends (the students I tutored were in middle school and high school).
I was involved with a youth program for most of my time in college, so I am able to relate easily to a variety of ages and work with them in such a way that they feel comfortable and confident.
