I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.

My comments on tutoring Algebra : A favorite subject.

My method of tutoring is to work with students where they are and add to their skills, to accomplish the final outcome, preferably an "A" or "B." Some students are visual learners and some are informational learners, or some students combine the two. The potential I see in students is what I try to bring out and have them realize they are capable of going a step further, to reach their goal. The importance of education and the students' continuance of same cannot be stressed enough.

My comments on tutoring Algebra : I like math and I'm bacharelor in bussines and accounting(studying) and I'm financial manager for a long time and it help me to teach basic math.

I began teaching 16 years . I taught mathematics and Portuguese for children with difficulties in doing homework . I continued to teach for five years or more. My comments on tutoring Algebra : Prepared lessons for and taught a high school algebra 1 course for one semester. Worked in an Algebra 1 classroom as a teacher's assistant for one year.

I like to use what the student already knows to prompt them forward into discovering how to complete the problem at hand on their own with guidance. I think this help connects the new material to the material the student already knows, which, in turn, will help them remember and understand it better.
I worked as a tutor in the Math Learning Center at Michigan State University for 3 years, and was also a teaching assistant for a precalculus for a semester while attending MSU. I have a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Michigan State, and have completed a semester of student teaching and graduate certification courses in teaching mathematics.
