Creative, energetic tutor with special needs experience

I like to get to know the student and individualize the tutoring to his or her learning style and interests. I can incorporate physical and creative activities into the academic subjects if desired.
I homeschooled a gifted third grader, including administering standardized end-of-grade test, for 1 year. I have tutored homeschooled first and third graders in math, reading, writing, social studies, and art for the last 6 months. I tutored a 8-12-year-old with autism spectrum for 4 years. In Nassau, Bahamas, after graduating from high school in 2006, my grandmother encouraged me to take an Adobe Photoshop class that was being held at a nearby Technical School. I had know clue of how powerful a tool Photoshop was, but I thought I'd give attending that class a try because my grandmother told me that graphic design was the industry of the future. I fell in love with Photoshop's photo-manipulation capabilities, and I crashed about 3 computers in that year playing with this powerful design software like a kid with a coloring book. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that all children can learn and all children are capable of learning. But, all students learn differently, so, I feel that by changing lessons and incorporating different things into each one to accomodate most, or all, students is necessary. When children are able to learn and gain experiences on their own, with little or no teacher intervention, they learn at their best. By doing fun activities, children are able to gain and retain knowledge better. After graduating from North Carolina State University, I began to apply and share the value of learning and education with my community. I developed an edible schoolyard curriculum and garden that integrated math, science, and social studies as part of the core curriculum. Some of us are visual learners and some are auditory learners, and many of us learn with a combination of styles. In the early seventies I was a tutor for a Canadian third grader through Operation Share at Mesa Community College San Diego Ca where I was studying elementary education. From 1985 through 1987 I worked at a domestic violence shelter often working with the children of abused women to help them stay current in school. Most were elementary school age.
