Turning your weakness into your strength

I have been tutoring for over seven years, starting with my peers in tenth grade. I have tutored a wide range of subjects, from Geometry through Calculus III, from general computer knowledge through utilizing the advanced functions of Microsoft Access. I have tutored people ranging from my peers to people three times my age, to as young as third graders. My motto has evolved into "Helping those who feel they can not be helped"
I help guide the student along, having them discover much of the information in a trial and error fashion. I tend to use the questions they are struggling with the most, making similar examples, then walking them through these problems and breaking down the problems until the student understands the how the process works.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. While this may deter several people from choosing me, I know that if you met me and/or any of my teachers from any grade level, they/I could certainly set the record straight, as I am quite a smart person, I have simply struggled with getting my life into an appropriate schedule. I have had several different interactions with children of all ages, spanning from elementary to college students, and have enjoyed every experience. I am excited about becoming a teacher to influence a number of kid's lives, but also love the impact that one-on-one tutoring can have. I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have a knack to bring into the classroom, outside events (latest ball games, Olympics, etc.) to establish a 'bond' between myself and the student. This allows me to gain their confidence as well as not create a bored atmosphere. I find this very important, especially with the more difficult students.
As seen from above, I have valid tutoring experience in both middle grades and HS. I was in the student teaching program at Wake Forest and upon graduation, I was a substitute teacher in the Winston-Salem, Forsyth County School system. I also participated in the Junior Achievement program in the Piedmont NC region for over 5 years. I am currently a tutor with the "No Child Left Behind Program."
