My passion is teaching mathematics. After a single year of retirement I missed teaching so much that I now either teach or tutor at three locations. In the classroom I have a casual, informal style that is more like a conversation with my students than a formal lecture. After presenting a problem for students to analyze and solve, my most common tactic is to ask a series of scaffolded (rather than Socratic) questions-designed to lead students to their own method to resolve the situation. I believe that all students can learn mathematics, and that determining how each student best does it is my prime objective. I taught secondary mathematics for 35 years, with 28 years experience teaching AP Calculus. I've also worked for the College Board, 'reading' AP Calculus Examination results.
